What Is a Pilgrimage?

Life is a pilgrimage. What exactly is a pilgrimage? It is a spiritual journey to a sacred destination. Typically, it is a journey to a shrine or to a location important to a person’s faith or beliefs. We could make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Rome, Fatima, Lourdes, Santiago de Compostela, or any number of famous Catholic sites around the world. However, we could also make a pilgrimage to the nearest cathedral or historical church to absorb the beauty and majesty of the building, as well as experience the Liturgy practiced by the parishioners there. As a matter of fact, every Sunday we make a pilgrimage to ST. MARK parish when we attend Mass.

Life is a pilgrimage. Sometimes we need a pilgrimage to rediscover the true meaning and purpose of our life, and how to share the gifts and talents God has given us. A pilgrimage reminds us that life is a journey towards God, towards Heaven and towards Eucharistic Glory. We need companions along the way! We don’t make the journey alone. These journeys are life-changing, especially for all those with whom we share these experiences. Pilgrims encourage us and challenge us to become what God created us to be: the best version of ourselves. By supporting each other, fellow pilgrims help us get to Heaven.

Life is a pilgrimage. ST. MARK is hosting a Mass for Deanery VI on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Bishop Burbidge as the Principal Celebrant. Everyone is invited to bring lunch, chairs/blankets, and water bottles to enjoy a picnic on the lawn after Mass. ST. MARK will provide simple desserts. Come share in the celebration of the next 50 years of the Diocese of Arlington along with our sister parishes within Deanery VI. Let’s make new friends on this pilgrimage journey of drawing closer to God!
